Visibility is a challenge many leaders face. While they understand its importance, they often hesitate, fearing it requires inauthentic self-promotion, which feels uncomfortable or disingenuous.


I can relate. For a long time, I believed that being visible meant adopting a persona that didn’t feel like me. It felt like I had to be “loud” to self-promote, which didn’t align with my values or how I was brought up. I also worried about not being liked or facing disagreement.





Another concern I often hear is that everything has already been said. But visibility isn’t just about saying something new; it’s about timing and knowing who to reach. Your unique perspective, delivered at the right moment, can resonate powerfully with the right audience.


The first step to overcoming these challenges is shaping your mindset. Visibility isn’t about being fake or constantly promoting yourself—it’s about recognising and promoting your value.


Once you’ve aligned your mindset with this understanding, the second step is to gain clarity. Knowing who you are, what you stand for, and how you want to be perceived—your personal brand—allows you to tailor your messaging and visual identity effectively.

  2. Praise Your Peers 👏Visibility isn’t just about self-promotion; it’s about lifting others up. Publicly recognising your peers’ contributions strengthens your relationships and enhances your visibility as a supportive leader.


  3. Share Your Expertise 📚Positioning yourself as a thought leader is invaluable. Share your insights through articles, talks, or webinars. This isn’t about bragging; it’s about offering value to your community.


  4. Leverage Storytelling 📖Storytelling makes your presence memorable. Share stories about your journey, challenges, and lessons learned. This humanises you as a leader and makes your experiences relatable.


  5. Volunteer & Mentor 💬Volunteering and mentoring are great ways to expand your visibility while giving back. These activities show your commitment to growth—both your own and that of others.
